they do in ham radio.
As the frequency is increased, circuit design becomes more and more critical.
Audio Frequencies are way below RF frequencies, and so tubes can be very good indeed.
Several of my ham radio friends who hand out on 75/80 meters still use tubes !
On the lower ham bands, high sensitivity isnt necessarily what you want from a receiver.
Signals are so strong that Rf overload becomes a real problem.
As in Audio, tubes have a more graceful recovery and freedom from overload.
But, as one gets higher up in frequency, transistors walk away from tubes in matters like RF sensitivity, and signal to noise ratio.
I dont have any tube stuff right now, having sold my tricked out Stereo 70, and tube line stage, oh, I still have my California Audio Labs Sigma Tube Dac, complete with a Wurlitzer NOS tube I got from a hamfest.
I can get tubey at times too, it depends on what speakers I have.
Right now, I have B&W 801's , and they seem to like solid state.
They really like the little Panasonic Sa Xr 45.
I am making some Jon Risch speaker cables for it, we will seee how they do.
Oh, as far as the "analog sound" goes, I remember Jeff Rowland when he was selling Win Lab strain guages.
I have had Oracle, SOTA, Elite Townshend Rock , and Linn Sondeks, Supex 900 E plus supers, Dynavector Rubys, Denon 103d,etc, etc.
I like the analog sound, and i like the Cd sound too.
Each has its strengths and weaknesses.
But my feeling is digital amps are going to continue to get better, and eventually give us better sound, for less.
