Unless I'm missing something Vandersteen isn't as worried about phase and time alignment at very low frequencies. The latest Model 7 has the woofers on the sides behind the other drivers when you would expect the woofers to be in front of them. But at very low frequencies the number of degrees phase is off is relatively small so maybe that's the reason.
