I'm a bass player - double bass and electric bass. Double basses DON'T have "slam" and all the rest of it. They have a lovely acoustic tone, and it's the tone that counts.
If you just want a big noise at the bottom of the frequency range, like in action movies, then fair enough. Or booming reggae music....
But don't pretend it bears any resemblance to a live instrument.
