An amp that provides "Great Powerful Bass" is not a good amp, unless the original recording features this bass. A good amp has a flat frequency response - no boosted bass.
Your speakers are the key to "Great Powerful Bass" provided they are fed by a good flat response amp.
I've never used a sub but never been short of Great Powerful Bass. My earliest "proper" speakers had 15" bass drivers and since then, mostly speakers with twin 10" drivers, or currently twin 12" ones. A well-designed full-range speaker system is the key to Great Powerful Bass
