Yes, the Pass X150.5 was a nice-sounding amp but overall I prefer that Purifi.
The Pass was slightly warmer than the Purifi; mid-range and bass were slightly fuller -- for some these qualities might be decisive versus the Purifi but not for me.
My VTV Purifi with VTV buffer and Sparkos SS3602 op amps sounds more detailed and transparent than the Pass; small-scale dynamics are chrisper and bass is slightly more articulate and seems to go deeper.
Today I'm using the VTV Purifi with my Sonic Frontiers Line 1 preamp. This preamp adds back a little of the warmth and fullness with an extremely slight loss of the above Purifi attributes.
I suppose it's crass of me but can't help but mention that the Pass X150.5 (new) was US$5500 whereas the VTV Purif was and is about $1600 with the Sparko, less than 1/3 the cost. New Pass amps have gone up significantly since then.
NOT the 51st state, eh!?!
