Burson discrete op amps have durable reputation for improving the sound of various device, e.g. DACs, CD players, headphone amps, etc., that employ op amps in DIP8 sockets. Accordingly I thought I would try a pair of Burson's V6 Vivid op amps in the VTV buffers of my Purifi amp.Unfortunately I couldn't directly compare my Burson experience with my earlier op amp comparisons because I no longer had my Freya + preamp that I had used in Passive Mode for these comparisons. By the time the Bursons arrived I had moved to my "new/old" Sonic Frontiers Line 1 tube preamp.
Anyway, I did try the Burson V6 Vivids in my VTV Purifi with the SF Line 1 as source. I concluded that there was very little difference versus the Sparkos ss3602 op amps. However that difference there was was, on balance, negative. I heard a very slightly smoother sound together with slight reduction in transparency; the latter aspect was a strong negative for me.
So I can't offer an opinion on the Bursons with a passive or excellent s/s preamp input. It is possible some folks would find Bursons beneficial with input from those sources.
NOT the 51st state, eh!?!
