Any of the 22xx models are great. The lower powered 2230 or similar are less than $100 MINTY, and solid enough to buy and use without a rebuild. Also cheap enough not to worry about it. For tubes, Eico or Fisher or Scott, but you want to find one that has been serviced -- this is possible, and still cheap, very likley under your budget. You will not be able to do musicality better with new -- no way, no how.
