When properly used, negative feedback is one of the most powerful tools engineers have for extending bandwidth and reducting distortion in analog circuits. When improperly used, it is an unmitigated disaster. Frequently paired with the excellent PAS3X preamplifier, this economical model was called the poor man's McIntosh. It was a favorite among audiophiles for several decades because of its top notch performance for its era, its reliability, and its economy. It was easy to build and reproduce by beginning kit builders and still meet factory specifications. There were probably more MKIII amplifiers sold than any other single vacuum tube model. There are many upgrades possible and reported. One thing that may help is improving the power supply. BTW, this was a favorite for powering the most difficult speaker loads of the era including the infamous AR3 and AR3a. In fact that was AR's own choice for demoing these speakers.
