Someone mentioned tube rolling, which is worth a try, including tube rolling the rectifier tube.
Other things to try is swapping out the coupling capacitors to something better. Cary used to promote some paper in oil caps as an upgrade. I purchased a set and installed them, but took them out about as fast - they sound like molassas. If you do have paper in oil coupling capacitors, switch them out to something much better, such as polypropylene, or polystyrene or even better, Teflon caps.
The other thing to try is changing out the power supply capacitors to something better. I switched out the 1000 uf power supply capacitors (high ESR) (cap input) in my SLA 70B sig to some Elna Cerefine (Panasonic would also be fine) caps with a nice improvement in perceived impulse response and a nicer tone of the amp. Another option would be to bypass the existing electrolytic power supply capacitors with a smaller (10% in value) film capacitor.
