RE: Cary SLI-80 integrated amp with vinyl

I suppose my question is to try and figure out if the problem you have is with the amp or the phono stages.

I would try a CD player and see how you like the sound and if the same sort of trouble exists there.

I like valve amps BUT some valve amps have more of that sterotypical warm and slower presentation.

If you can confirm that you like the amp but it's just the phono then you simply need to look at phono stages.

You might try the Audio Note R-Zero tube phono stage. Steve Hoffman (Mastering engineer for a ridiculous number of major artists raved about the thing)

I have no experience with it but it is their least expensive phono stage.

I have a higher level phono stage in my M3 Preamp and I am getting AN's top MM Cartridge next week. That cart can stand against pretty much any MC cartridge - which is impressive I must say.
