I owned a GTP 450 II a while back.
It's impossible for me to say if it's "good" because you give no point of reference.
So - Good or bad as compared to what?
What were the people who told you the Adcom was a bad preamp using for a preamp?
What are the other 2 preamps you have?

IOW - It's impossible to say something is "good" or "bad", but it is possbile to compare 2 components.

I replaced a NAD 304 preamp section with the GTP and I think the GTP probably sounded a little better plus it had a remote.
I replaced the GTP with a Quicksilver Linestage and the Quickie was almost unbelieveably better, as in it totally transformed my system.
