adcom GTP 450 preamp

Two questions please
I own a GTP 450 preamp, also own a lot of amps and speakers mostly all tube.
Here is the thing was thinking of using the ADCOM GTP 450 in a set up I am putting together but I got so much negitive feedback about the ADCOM GTP 450 being a lousy preamp I decided to ask those that have experience more then me what they think of the preamp before I get started, I have only three preamps one in use other under construction. Pair of mono Eico's.
Second Q. the 450 had a red light that showed volumn a little dot on the dial but it died anyone ever run into that problem and is it a easy fix?
Thanks to anyone who can direct me. I am not a very knowledgeable person in the repair deptartment and am disabled.
Any help would be appreciated
