I own the standard Rogue Cronus (non-magnum) and I can say that i sounds excellent! Not to say the Magnum version is not worth the money, because to some people it is, if you need more power to drive your speakers or if you prefer a more analytical sounding tube (KT-90/120's). Aside from the larger transformers to give more headroom (which do cost money) it is not a totally different design like some people are mentioning here. I prefer the sound of EL-34 tubes, they sound more organic and well, tubey to me. I think it's excellent that Rogue provides options though for everyone so they can tailor the sound more to their personal tastes.
Gold tube sockets though they cost a little more don't improve the sound ( Old Mullard tubes did not use gold in them and yeah they still sound kinda good.....lol), and "vishay" resistors in "key spots" though I'm sure not detrimental is if anything a sideways step at best in sound. They are essentially the same amp, it's just the Magnum version provides a bit more versatility in getting extra watts if you need them or prefer the sound of KT-90 tubes. I do plan on trying the KT-77's i my standard Cronus just to hear what they sound like but I am completely satisfied and more with the beautiful sound that the Rogue Cronus provides as is (I did change out the stock tubes, but even those sounded great).
The Rogue Cronus, (either version) is an excellent product that I'd recommend to anyone!
