Actually those wires are fairly small. I use Audio Magic Illusion 4D interconnects and speaker wire. Actually at retail prices those cables sell for 6 or 7 times what the little amp kit costs. Not sure if that speaks well for the Elekit, or ill of me for splurging on cabling.
The Eico is a pretty amp, and EL 84 based amplifiers always seem to sound wonderful. However, that guy will eat up alot of room, especially if you have two of them. Then the costs of refurbing them, it adds up quickly.
If space is tight, and tubes are the order of the day, well there are lots of choices. I know Vista Audio makes some wonderful little SEP amplifiers. Also the RM 7 from Reference Music is quite nice. Reference Music is in your state, and still flies under the radar these days. However, a pair of moderately efficient speakers are in order, and probably bookshelves to save room. Choices from Omega Audio, or other full range drivers would fit the bill. But so would some nice used Epos, or even those small Infinities.
Junk the sound card though. There are several USB capable DAC's that would fit the ticket. The Squeezebox is another option, but in stock form it sounds terrible. At least give it a good linear power supply. If you ever went down this road, consult Wayne Wannahan at Bolder Cable Company, he is the man who knows everything about SB's.
Maybe it's time to sell a piece or two? But maybe not, after all this is an addiction...er hobby.
