If you don't mind getting rid of the tone controls, you can make a killer line section in the PAS that will take on many modern preamps.
You can do with without having to replace the power transformer.
Possibilities include:
stepped volume control
zero feedback line section
improved phono section
and so on.
Keep in mind that in its stock form, the filter capacitors are essentially shot. I would not run the unit other than to test that it lights up until all the filter caps are replaced.
