RE: The delightful EICO HF12

Bambi,
I am a huge fan of tube amps and that is what I exclusively use on stage (professional musician). I am careful and fairly aware of the do's and don'ts concerning their use. That being said, I had no idea about the "soft start" and hopefully have not ruined this amp as I already plugged it in to try to give it a test run, but I couldn't get any sound from it.

My unit looks just like the the picture you posted. It has all Mullard tubes: 3) 12AX7's (Great Britain), 2) EL84's (Great Britain)and 1 tube I am unfamiliar with. It is marked E281/6CA4 (Holland). Whats this one for?

I am planning on using the original speaker this unit was manufactured with as I pulled them from the console at the same time. I am still trying to figure out what speaker it is, but it obviously is compatible.

I have no testing or maintenece equipment as I usually leave the repair and modification of my tube amps to the pro's! As I stated in my original post, I am a total nube to working on these things. I am very hands on and a fast learner so I thought this might be a fun project but seeing as I have already made a mistake simply in trying to fire it up, I may need to pass this off to my amp guy; just not sure I can afford it!

I will search ther archives and decide if I want to do this myself.

I do have a multi meter. Are there any simple tests you can give me to check basic function of this thing? I would like to determine if?where there is a problem. Any further help would be greatly appreciated.

p.s. there appears to be no on/off switch on this. Am I just missing something?
