RE: Why are TVCs not more popular




I agree on the benefits, and my DIY 01A preamp/DAC uses a Bent Audio (Slagle) silver-wound, nickel-core autoformer on the output, in damped-resonance parafeed configuration. Thus, the VC also serves as the "output transformer". Response is flat from 10Hz to 20kHz at my usual listening level, with a gentle rise in the lowest frequencies as volume is decreased...which I think actually sounds better than completely flat. Remote controlled with 61 steps means I never have a problem finding just the right volume level, and since there is a VC for each channel the balance control is built right in.
I have no desire to upgrade, which means the sound is just about perfect for me. VERY transparent and extremely musical.
