Good question.
I am building a Barn Door Tracker for my camera. The intent is to get it to 'pan' at 1/4degree per minute.
A 1/4-20 thread at 1 rpm needs to be 11.42" from the hinge for this to work and with the most simple setup, you can get exposures of around 5 to 8 minutes without 'tangent error'.

BUT, a stepper motor? can be programmed to step at different rates over time. So you can get it to do 30 minute or longer exposures with NO tangent error.

Good illustration and some 'advanced' features.....
