'D' amps are severely time limited at max power. Sometimes as low as 30 seconds while a full 60 seconds or even 90 seconds is more common.
FTC power ratings of 'D' amps is also far below the 'rated' power.
Heat sinking would appear to be the limiting factor.
This isn't really 'the big issue' with such amps, however. In my couple years with a ASP module'd Integrated, I found the SOUND in the HF to be not to my liking. I NEVER over heated the amps even with my low-sensitivity panels.
Power Users with low-sensitivity panels might consider a DIY biamp / Triamp situatio with the nCore modules lapped and secured to a proper heat sink to help this situation.
