Teac A-L700P Tripath Amp vs. Sonic Impact T?

I've tried but can't find much of any concrete info on how the STOCK tripath Teac A-L700P compares with the famous STOCK Sonic Impact T.
(I do not plan to do any mods)
I'm also confused about whether I can use the Teac A-L700P power amp as if it were a Sonic Impact T. That is to say, can I use the RCA jacks on the back to hook a cd player or tuner into it, instead of a preamp? And is this amp's volume controllable? There appears to be some kind of "preset volume" switch on the back. Is this like a volume control? Any way to control volume on the front?
Sorry to be asking so many questions here, but Teac's own site has almost nothing of detail on this amp!
