I found your review most helpful since I recently bought a B&K ST-140 and at first found it a bit strained by the challenge of my Vandersteen 2ces. With the advice of a friend, who used to be a dealer, I left the amp on for a few days and now it's fine. Even so, I've thought to go shopping again for the Sonata (I almost bought one last night but thought better of it finally because it would be coming from HI) together with the matching preamp. My friend raves about the pre, and I think I'm going after that first to try out with the ST-140. Currently I've been using a Conrad-Johnson PV-10 which for some reason doesn't quite meld with the amp. I swapped that out for an old Rotel RC-995 which sounds better to me. By the way, I listen almost exclusively to full orchestra Classical and a bit of jazz.
