Re: Finally. Good Sound Solid State Amps

I know what you are saying about the SM-70's. I had a pair about 5 years ago, and they were hard to replace. I was into trying all different amps, so I relaced them with a 2A3, then 300b, (a cheap one)and a pair of 700wpc Classe's. Along the way, I bought a pair of Monarchy SE-100 Delux monos. Still have them.
I tried the Monarchy SE-250 Mono's - Tube/SS. Did not like them at all, and I soooooooo wanted to.
Nothing has come close to the SE-100's until I bought a custom made 300b amp.
I doubt I will ever sell the Monarchy's. Every once in a while, especially on a Saturday night with a good bottle of Cabernet, I need the power, punch and finesse of the Monarchys over the 300b. (Well, mostly the power and punch).
PS - I know 1 speaker manufacturer that uses a single SM-70 as his break-in amp and really loves it - and he can pretty much choose whatever amps he wants to use.
IMHO - FYIW.
