Hey Pig.... I too until very recently was a whole -hearted convert to SET's and the magic they make, having run deHavilland Aries 845's for well over a year now.I just got tired of putting up with the noise (distortion?) they make that was soo very audible at my seated listening position. They hummed like nobodys business. ( they may have been malfunctioning...but now I could care less)
So...I decided like you to find something that was quiet, (thinking SS) and would be reliable and trouble free (thinking cool running).
I went back to my roots and got an McIntosh MC 352 and a C100 preamp and I will never look back. Sound almost like tubes without the hassle. Last amp and pre I think I will need (Right!...Thats what I said about SET's!).
I will miss the tube rolling though.
