The MX-R and the new VX-R are the only amps we have made that have that distinctive appearance. So there is no question that you heard the MX-R.
You are right that they mess up the order of the universe! Both Joe Harley, mastermind of the Music Matter reissues and many AudioQuest original recordings, and Richard Vandersteen (needs no introduction) were hard-core tube guys. They have *never* had solid state anywhere near their systems. But now they both have MX-R's and wouldn't part with them.
Richard has heard some of the $60,000 "super amps" and thinks the MX-R's are better in some ways and within spitting distance overall. He wants me to make a special edition with stupid expensive parts just to show what they can really do.
