We are not fans of switch-mode power supplies. Why put an RFI generator right inside your audio equipment?
The amp runs warm, but not hot. It runs a few degrees warmer than the MX-R, but that's all. There is a temperature sensor in both models that shuts them off if the heatsink reaches 145 F (63 C). This is very far from the max rating on the transistors of 300 F (150 C). 145 F is warm enough that you will pull your finger off rather quickly if you touch it. As far as I know we haven't had customer complaints of the MX-R's shutting down.
