I heard a couple of Goldmund amps at a Goldmund dealer a year or so ago. I was immediately struck by the so called speed of the amp. While the build quality was magnificent the sound was not for my taste. At the same dealer I also heard an MBL right after the Goldmund's. I preferred the MBL. It had more warmth and realism to the sound. I didn't end up buying any either of the amps. I bought a McIntosh MC 402. While I'm not sure it was quite as pleasing as the MBL it was half the price. With every amp I've owned in the last six years of this hobby I've always been looking for "what's next". Usually within months of my purchase. I now own the darTZeel amp and preamp. I have truly fallen in the love with this combo. I had the amp first and was blown away with the clarity, dynamics, accurate portrayal of the instruments, warmth, and speed, not to mention the best sound stage I've ever "seen". The darT's don't alter what's on the source, just deliver it. The build quality is second to none. They have performed flawlessly with my system. I hooked them up, plugged them in, and when I feel like listening I just turn them on. It really doesn't get much simpler than that. The amp is at 90% performance when you switch it on and goes to 100% within five minutes. The amp has all the bloom of tubes without any of the noise or hassles associated with tube ownership. I can not fully describe the sound. It sounds completely different than any other amp I've ever heard. If you have very efficient speakers (90db plus),and the darTZeel fits into your budget, do yourself a favor and audition one in your system. You will be buying an amp for a lifetime of enjoyment. I don't believe there is an upgrade available at any price.
