...the VTL 450s that would drive my Alons so well cost WAY more than my Herrons - which sound pretty darned good BTW. (They have an ease, immediacy, realism and dimensionality that reminds me of good tube amps...although they are not warm and rolled off in the sense that some people think tube-like ss amps sound. Fuzzy and rolled off is not what I look for from tubes anyway.)A lot of folks have speakers which require more power & damping than can be supplied by affordable tube amps. If I had more efficient speakers, it would be another story. (But I love my full range Alons and don't plan dumping them any time soon.)
