I have only heard the DarTZeel at T.H.E.Show so I cannot comment on the sound. However, to say that an amp is a joke because it has a particular specialized use and cannot drive all speakers out there is simplistic and narrow-minded. I suppose, if one were into the silly game of declaring one product the "best," it would have to be the audio equivalent of a decathelete, capable of good, but not world class performance in a variety of events. But, if I had the right kind of complement of speakers, I wouldn't care if it cannot drive a Thiel, etc.I've heard a number of low-powered solid state amps, including several other designs that use only a single pair of output devices, designs using only NPN transistors (i.e., NOT complementary pairs), designs with output transformers, etc., and many of these non-conventional amps are among the best sounding solid state amps, when used with efficient and easy to drive speakers. I actually own a pair that combines all of the above-mentioned characteristics.
Speakers and amps must be thought of as a combination, not separate components. They have to sound really good together. So far, I have heard few combinations of big brute amps and any speaker that I really like, and it doesn't matter if it is the amps or the speakers that are at "fault."
