Re: Guilty as charged ;)

I bought the Hovland (w/phono) without hearing it too. I was very happy with that decision and still feel it is a bargain even at retail (which I did not pay) considering that, IMHO, it equals or betters separates costing MUCH more!

Actually, Quint was impulsive to a point but he had heard the Tenor 75s at my home and then either talked to or heard stories through me from other Tenor owners who felt the 300s were cut from the same sonic cloth (although, IMHO, even better). So he was not totally shooting in the dark.

I was a Doubting Thomas on the 300s as I felt the 75s IN MY SYSTEM, and based on my tastes and music, were the best amps I have ever heard. I also heard a prototype of the 300s a while back in less than perfect conditions and, although I like them, still preferred the 75s.

So, with an inherent bias and a love of the 75s going in, I was in a Missouri kind of "show me" state of mind when they arrived. All I can say is, I WAS WRONG YET AGAIN!!!(but BOY, what a nice way to be wrong!) My hat's off to the Tenor boys and Michel van Den Broecke, the designer. For me, as the Old Milwaukee ads says: "It doesn't get any better than this!"

Yes, $30K (which I am not charged as a reviewer) is a lot of coin, but so is even an ordinary car which will never give me the pleasure of great audio gear driving my favorite music. So, I choose to drive a lesser car and not have as expensive of a home as I can afford so I can have a system I want - it's all about our relative priorities!

Enjoy!
