RE: To tell you the truth...

I use a pair of Anthem M1 mono blocks which are rather sophisticated class D amps. They draw only 33 watts each when at idle and in 'standby mode' about 3 watts each. As little as they draw, I still opt to fully disconnect the line cords from the outlets when not in use. I power both amps on dedicated 240 volt/15 amp circuits, therefore they use two hot legs from the main panel. The last lightning hit I took came in via one leg from the power line pole and it destroyed a lot of equipment here. I really don't want to go through it again and I know my insurance would probably get cancelled if I were to have another major claim. I simply unplug what I can when they are calling for violent storms and when not at home.

I am not one to worry about keeping my audio gear warmed up at all times. In fact James Henriot at Whest Audio who made my two phono stages told me not to bother with leaving anything on 24/7, I would not gain anything. He told me that turning things on an hour before use was all that was necessary, so that is exactly what I do. Honestly, I cannot hear any difference between my gear after a short warm up and after an extensive long winded warm up time. And as mentioned earlier, I am an energy cheap skate.
