I have a Krell that run in class A/B so the top is warm but never hot. My cousin gave me the amp after changing the caps after 10 years. It was premature but he's a tech so I appreciated it. Dull sound is a sign the caps are going out of spec. so you may want to find out what it would run you. It's cheaper than a new amp.
