Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

Hello Gentlemen.i have 2 Eico HF20 amps. i asking if a fellow enthusiast with some Tube and Electronic tube circuit understanding could point me in the way of a substitute for the 5u4g tube? which is the Rectifier recommened for the Eico HF20 integrated Amp. i understand the Data sheets for most tubes, but when it comes to how they work in the actual cicuits i have a bit of knowledge and for (safety reasons) i like to ask questions directed to the more expierenced hands on Audio Enthuistist before making a expensive mistake (i need a tech in the know). Basically i want to use a indirectly heated rectifier tube that is close to the 5u4g in specs and operation.... to prolong the life of the Power tubes and capicators in my two HF 20's. i am using the Russian 5u3c Rectifier in the 2 Amps now i like what i hear with all types of music. i do not at this time want to have the circuits modified if possible.... to use a indirectly heated rectifier, Ex 5AR4. The electronics of both amps have been restored to original specs (the circuit is still Ultralinear) with only with newer parts under the hood some better than the original parts. The original Output Transformer and Power supply are still on each amp and check as they should. Also i have heard that Shrink wrapping pin 6 of V2 (12ax7) turns HF20's into a Monoblocks and you can use the tape output as a Input when you turn the Loundness control to Max?. Everything sounds like music to my ears so far with these amps.... i would like to get 2 more HF 20's down the Audio " Road" i know there Not Western Electric but not "Candle" either or as a friend of mine use to say Cannedhell.P.S Audio+ the Music i listen to gives meaning to my life...!Thank you for your time your Consideration.
