RE: Audio Research LS15 and LS16 MKI and MKII

I certainly do appreciate all of the input that I have recieved so far! I have very little personal experience in the tube world, so the information is invaluable to me! My local dealer used to be an Audio Research dealer until the store changed hands several years ago, and that took the ability close by to listen to various ARC preamps etc. The former owner, always had vintage ARC, new and in between. So I have listened to these pre's before, it just hasn't been in the context of my current system/room. Therefore, short audio memory and all that, it is good to hear other's perceptions.

In listening to my current system, I am very pleased with it and if it err's to any one side, it can be a little too clean/sterile. On the Ohm's it might not be quite so, but the Maggies, it does tend to be that way a little more so. Obviously the recording has a good bit to do with that as well.

I do think a little "tubiness" would be welcome here, but not a lot. I have gotten very used to leaving my system on 24/7, so with tubes I would have to be careful with this on the preamp. I take it that the tubes remain heated as long as the pre is in the "on" postion regardless of mute etc.? I know some tubes have standby switch that keeps all the other electronics warmed up with exception of the tube heaters? Again, I am a tube newbie here, so any comment or correction for my ignorance is welcome!

I do believe I will continue on the lookout for a minty silver LS15/16, and if I sold some other items, I could maybe-but not likely extend to a LS25 possibly. I just don't want to unbalance an already decently balanced system! I am not one to trade on gear quickly, and prefer to just enjoy what I have and tweek a little here an there to get things as good as I can. Thanks again all for your time and experience! Tim

PS Bambi, that is a very nice pic of your gear, and also the LS15.
