Sonic Euphoria PLC: The "Crap" Test

Well, I've had my Sonic Euphoria PLC for a while now and have been busily re-discovering my music collection (usually with the typical "golden eared" fare or favorite nicely done recordings).

Now I figured that it was time for the CRAP test.

I just took a number of the recordings that I really liked a lot and played a batch all in a row that was, well, CRAP.

I mean really badly recorded: flat, no frequency response, highly compressed, distortion, etc. ... name it.

So I created a CRAP fest of favorite recordings that were badly done and found that the PLC made them all more enjoyable than before.

Due to the purity of the signal coming through I thought I would be gritting my teeth but I found that the natural "body" of the main vocal (or primary instrument) seemed to allow you to overlook a lot of the shortcomings of the recording.

Also, I know that my new Pulsar digital cable was also contributing in defining a closer step to properly recreating a closer simulation of the real event.

I know that there is a lot of controversy in the passive vs. active debate, but I think this may have to do with the listener's biases in regard to sensitivity.

For me there is a solidity in the character of the vocals and instrumentality within the music that the PLC helps bring me *that* much closer to the original music event.

In my configuration this is really working out!

I guess the point to this is that although you can still distinguish (instantly in fact!) a bad recording from good, it seems that the PLC makes the listening experience more palatable.
