System matching

When you are an end user, it's about the only thing you can do. As a manufacturer, you try to make something that is as neutral (in the best sense of that word and not the way it has come to mean "accurate = ruthlessly revealing", as I have never heard live music sound "ruthless").

Any good reviewer should be looking for that as well, but I know of very few that understand the concept, yet alone know how to even begin looking for it.

But in general "system matching" is a myth. The way you can tell when a system has been made with "system matching" is that it will sound amazingly spectacular with certain recordings and or certain genres of music. A truly accurate system will sound great with any type of music and even with poor-quality recordings - you will just go, "hmm that's not a very good recording, but man! Listen to those tight vocal harmonies!"

Not many systems do that. They are built on coloration stacked on coloration stacked on coloration, stacked on coloration.
