Amp/Preamp Asylum Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here. |

You know, I never knew that by tri-wiring speakers that it would create a heavier load on the amplifier but it appears to be true. At least in my case. If you look at some of my latest posts I was having trouble with heat generation in my McIntosh 7270 that powers my Alon V's that are tri-wired with Alon's Black Orpheus cables. I recently had an opportunity to connect other speaker that were bi-wired (Boston A400's) and the load or heat generated by the amp was significantly less and when I connected JBL L36's single wired . . . the McIntosh could play at high levels for hours without getting noticeably hot. My question is does tri-wiring always cause a bigger load to the amp or is my situation just unique. The Alon's are 8 ohms. Thanks in advance for any advice comments.
