Yeah, Abe, I agree with you. Kind of silly to pay nearly that for the repair only and then not have the upgrade or the warranty. My unit is already boxed up and ready to go out on Monday. Now, as to when I can afford to have it shipped back - that is another matter! :)

Now, are you just saying that the R upgrade involves giving the unit a higher gain so that it can boost a signal more from the pre-amp input? I thought that is what the "i" designation was all about.

Are you saying that I will have to use a different tube than the 6922 input tube? I have never heard of the 12BZ7, I hope they are not very expensive!
