I do not own and and have not heard either TRL or APL products but I stand by my opinion that the level of industrial design (and in the case of the integrated under review, casework fit and finish) is sadly lacking for products in their price range. I don't think audio equipment needs to be jewelery but if you are asking a premium price it is not unreasonable to expect at least a minimal effort toward industrial design. Many small audio companies hawking far less expensive equipment manage to deliver products that aren't a total eyesore.
