Re: I just bought a Panasonic XR-45 for a hundred bucks. - XR50

I have just recently purchased the SA-XR50 from Future Shop in Toronto and have modified the unit with the traditional IEC adapter.

It is driving a pair of Altec A7's (fronts) and Fostex 164's (rears). I have also picked up the Toshiba SD-3860 to use as a transport.

As a comparison I had previously been using a Bryston B60 for CD's and DVD's (stereo only).

From day one there was a significant audible difference by changing the power cord which was consistent with the results posted by everyone else.

I am still waiting for a few more weeks of use before concluding on a final comparison to the Bryston (stereo). Initially the XR50 appears to be more detailed where the B60 is much smoother. For the difference in the retail price I would not hesitate to recommend the XR50 for home theatre.

Other reviewers have commented that the XR50 is not equivalent to the XR45, however for the difference in the Cdn dollar cost, the XR50 has been an excellent choice.

Regards,

Don
