Absolutly does not sound like a tube amp. I have heard better systems before but for quite a bit more money, quite a bit more. The beauty of this receiver is just how good it does sound. This is not "decent" sound, this is very good music making. I truly would love to see a dedicated two channel version with good binding posts. I think such a beast,with a fair price tag, would sell like hotcakes. I've long wanted a two channel receiver with a great tuner and great sound quality, good build, and a fair price. The Panasonic is not two channel, the tuner is good, not great, build quality is fair, price is right. They did, however, hit it out of the park in the sound quality area. Until my dream hi-end receiver becomes a reality, the Panasonic will do just fine.
