Home Amp/Preamp Asylum

Looking for a new Amp or Preamp? If you're after tubes, post over here.

I just bought a Panasonic XR-45 for a hundred bucks.

If I had to describe my reaction to the Panasonic in one word it would be GOBSMACKED. I hooked it up around 4 yesterday afternoon. Then I realized it was 2am and I was still listening to music. Up around 10am, just stopped listening around half an hour ago. I really wasn't expecting much but I figured for a hundred bucks I'd see what all the fuss was about. If I were a "high-end" manufacturer of amps and preamps, I think I'd start looking for another line of work, really. I won't prattle on about how it sounds because it's all been said a hundred times before. I'll sum up my impressions with: weight, control, clairity and musical. I assume these digital receivers are only going to get better and cheaper, bad news for expensive high end brands. My unit, as far as I know, is bone stock, including the power cord. It bests my Anthem tube amp in any area you care to name, and not by a small amount either. I hooked my Sony CD/DVD/SACD player up using a coax connection and my phono preamp into one of the analog line inputs, both sound startling good. Oh yeah, the tuner isn't bad either. This little fricken receiver is so good for so little it's silly. Home music reproduction has made a paradigm shift. If your a consumer, rejoyce. If your a manufacturer of multi-thousand dollar amplifiers, well, I hope you invested well.
