There seems to be this inherent snobbery out there, or the notion that if one spends $300 on an amp they wind up loving, they MUST not have a clue as to what is 'really going on.' I have had a long line of great sounding and expensive stuff, Art Audio Jota, Pass Aleph, the list goes on, and I still am completely amazed at what the Panasonic is capable of; Like looking at the stones on the bottom of a glacial stream, one cannot even detect the water. I was listening to a familiar album amped by a Bryston 4BST, a venerable transistor amp, and the very one which I once owned, and found it singularly unmusical, that I could almost "hear" the switching, the glare and stridency was immediately apparent. The Joule Electra tube linestage cast a haze over everything.... Then, we switched to the Panasonic, were back into the music again, and today I find, this friend has ordered his own SA XR45. I can afford any audio toy I wish, as long as I can justify its expense. Right now, it is the Panasonic to stay folks, take it from me. Spend the rest on the best speakers you can afford, because chances are yours are not up to the task.
