I love my 2200. I bought it new, but the dealer put some different tubes in it for me, so I don't know how it sounds stock. The phono section runs off of 2 separate tubes that only come on if you select the phono input, so you're not aging them if you listen to FM or CD alot. Tube rolling obviously changes things, so you can tweak the phono somewhat. Sam Tellig listened to it stock. As to comparisons, I've owned Krell and heard Audio Research and Levinsons at dealers so not too many, but I chose the Mac.
