Well it didn't break or anything but the crackle and hum was loud enough that I thought it was happening to the amp and not the tube. Inside the 845 I could see it go bright white and flames inside the tube.
They replaced the tube no questions and I talked to the dealer a bit about tube life of these Chinese tubes. He carries a lot of tubes from all around the world and basically said if they go they usually go early - first 30 hours. If they make it out of that they can last 20,000+ hours for 845s. That's pretty impressive. About 20 years if you listen 3 hours daily.
I also now know who makes Line Magnetic Tubes - PSVane.
Tonight I will be putting the new tube in and biasing the beasty. It's a bit of a process but it looked not to be too hard. Bias the 845 first then the 300B using the screwdriver on the top then the fine bias adjustment and then adjust the hum balancers if necessary.
