To those who complain about the maintenance of tubes: quite honestly, I find the hassle and complexity of getting dressed each day to far exceed that of typical tube maintenance (pants are hard...shoelaces suck!). I'm also not sure I understand the mentality of spending several thousands of $'s -- on what most would consider a frivolous hobby -- and then to shun the very minimal research, involvement, and oversight required by tubes. Furthermore, have we actually gotten a verified case of someone's house burning down from an unattended hifi tube amp (not made-in-china gear, not JJ tubes), ever?? I think cheap toaster ovens would be far more common culprits towards loss of life/home. Do the tube shunners also shun properly prepared pop-tarts, bagel bites, garlic bread, and hot pockets? If you choose SS over tubes for sonic reasons, then excellent! Each may work better with a particular speaker model. Each has their short-term and long-term maintenance advantages and disadvantages. I had a sad time seeing a couple of my holy-grail Tung-Sol round plate 6SN7GT tubes (already on their 10th of 9 lives) die. Then again, good luck finding your favorite output transistor 10 years from today...
And now those that espouse the efficiency advantage of SS amps and then leave them on 24/7...wait...what???
