I have both and in most cases prefer tubes. I only use SS amps when the speaker demands a current device. Almost without fail, every amplifier prefers a higher impedance load but this is especially true of tube amps and when I use speaker with lower impedances I feel like I am not allowing the system to perform at its best if I use a tube amp. I will add that in my experience it is far easier to get a cheap tube amp that sounds good than solid state. There are only a handful of SS amps that I could live with, they are very expensive and none are made in the U.S. I also find that I prefer the lower power ss amps as I prefer single ended tube designs. In my mind, it is the speaker that determines the amplifier!
