No, I have not experienced the Gilmore Raptors. I have experienced several Class D amps, many made with the same off-the-shelf ICEpower modules as used in the Raptors and some with various modifications. There are several brands out there that use those ICEpower modules and so far, they sound pretty similar to me.
The best SS Class D amps I have heard just a few weeks ago were a pair made by Merrill Audio. The Merrill Veritas monoblocks use the Hypex Ncore NC1200 OEM modules, not the DIY 400 modules. I listened to this pair at a friend's house and they were amazing..... but I need to get back over there for a serious critical listening session.
As for SS vs tube sound, it comes down to personal preference. There are many characteristics of tubes that I enjoy and some from SS. But as I mentioned earlier, it has been much more difficult for me to find a SS amp that I can live with. I'm trying, as I have tried in the past.
