Hi Tubes,
Great review ... made me seriously interested in buying a hot-rodded Hagerman Coronet2 phono stage kit, to compare against my current #1 phono stage (alas, no longer obtainable! :-(( ).
I'm writing to suggest you really need to replace your Dale Vishay 24 step attenuator sourced from Taiwan for 65 dollars, with a TKD stepped attenuator bought from Michael Percy for $250. It will make an unbelievable improvement! :-))
I installed one of these into my preamp about a year ago ... and why, you ask? Well, the late great Bob Crump investigated what volume control he should use for his "Blowtorch" preamp ($10K+) and ended up with a TKD - but with some mods involving Vishay resistors (which add another $120 to the price).
What's good enough for Bob is *certainly* good enough for me ... so I just followed suit! :-)) And it made a major difference in detail!
Regards,
Andy
