Electronically speaking the only detriment

to long cap leads is that you can pick up RF contamination and other EMI variables. The cap can resonate if not secured to something and that is a debate that I enjoy discussing but I don't know if it boils down to anything more than personal preference and OCD logic.

I am going to get the Caps on the C2 much closer soon. I have the parts and now just need to do some drilling and fitment.

The Caps should all be within a couple inches when I am done with them. I will solder the leads to the top aspect of the board, twist and shield the wires and then it will look a lot cleaner.

While I don't like the big piggy job on my Clarinet. I wanted to make sure it sounded right before doing a lot of sub board builds to clean it all up.

I just love the sound of this pre amp. It has been an eye openner to me about how inexpensively you can build an excellent circuit. Kudos to Jim Hagerman's designs.
