I slightly modified my Bedini 150 MK II with Blackgate caps in the electrolytics, and Dynamicaps and Russian Teflons in the film cap position.
The sound is really good. I bought the Bedini used for 495 and the cap upgrades were just 150 dollars.
It sounds better than new and these were 1600 dollars or more back in the day.
I also have two Precision Fidelity M7A hybrid amps. They run EL34 or C6A7 power tubes with 50 wpc and 200 watt peak output. I am in the process of replacing the ruby caps with Blackgates and replacing the film caps with Silver Supremes. I have four Russian FT-3 caps left and I might spin one or more into the circuit to keep the dynamics you seem to lose with the silver in oil Mundorf units. I think there is only one coupling cap in the direct circuit pathway so I will probably only need two Teflons per amp.
These improvements run me about 400 dollars per amp. I have only bought pieces to improve just one amp to see if I like the results.
The Bedini improved a lot. I hope the PF amps gain exactly what the Bedini gained which is effortlessly smooth highs, a little cleaner and clearer punch, and darker backgrounds. I like the Bedini so much right now I have no desire to mod the PF amps. The extra watts with the Bedini amp really kick it for Rock and Roll.
I have a Bedini 250 MKII running just the 12 inch sub sonic reinforcement chores. I do not like this amp for anything other than low bass. If you want to try a Bedini, get the 150 MK II. This amp is a gem!
Thanks for the kind words.
I might do an SET amp in the future if I am willing to buy or build some horns.
